Speechify pricing explained

Last updated: September 9, 2026

Speechify prices per person, with a free tier and a premium subscription, plus separate lines for studio work and teams. For an individual the structure is simple. For a team it is worth doing the arithmetic before committing, because per-seat pricing behaves very differently at ten people than at one.

No prices on this page, on purpose. Speechify changes its published prices, and they differ by region, billing term, and promotion. A number written here would be wrong sooner than we would notice. For current figures see Speechify’s own pricing page (opens in a new tab). What this page explains is how the plans are structured, which is the part buyers usually get wrong. We make a competing product — see the note at the end.

What catches buyers out

The headline price is usually the annual rate

As with most consumer subscriptions, the monthly figure quoted prominently is what you pay per month on an annual plan. Month-to-month billing costs meaningfully more. Check which one you are looking at before building a budget on it.

Per-seat pricing scales linearly, and departments do not

One subscription is inexpensive. Twenty is twenty times that. If the people converting documents are few but the people listening are many, a per-seat model prices the wrong thing — you only need seats for the converters.

Reading and production are different products

Speechify Studio is priced separately from the reading subscription. If you need both, you are buying two things.

Premium voice time is an allowance, not unlimited

Free and lower tiers cap premium voice usage. Heavy listening in a premium voice will hit that ceiling.

Working out what it will actually cost you

  1. Separate the people who convert from the people who listen. Only converters need seats — this usually cuts the seat count dramatically for a department.

  2. Confirm whether the price you are quoting is monthly or annual billing. The difference is large enough to change a decision.

  3. Estimate premium voice usage per term rather than per month, since academic demand is concentrated around term start and assessment.

  4. Check whether you need Studio as well as the reading product. They are priced separately.

  5. If the seat count is above roughly five, get a team quote rather than buying individual subscriptions — and price a flat-rate alternative at the same time.

Questions about Speechify pricing

Is Speechify free?

There is a free tier with standard voices and a limited allowance of premium voice time. It is enough to decide whether the reading experience works for you, which is the right thing to test. Heavy use will hit the premium ceiling quickly.

Is there a student discount?

Speechify has offered student pricing at various points. Availability and terms change, so check their site directly rather than relying on any third-party page, including this one.

How does team pricing work?

Per seat, quoted rather than listed. The key question for a department is how many seats you actually need — if three coordinators convert material that two hundred students listen to, you need three seats, not two hundred.

Can I cancel?

Self-serve subscriptions can be cancelled, though annual plans are paid up front. Refund terms are set by Speechify and by the app store if you subscribed through one — mobile subscriptions follow the store's rules, not the vendor's.

Is Speechify Studio included?

No. Studio is a separate product with separate pricing, aimed at producing voiceover rather than reading your own material.

How ours compares

We publish our prices on one page with one plan structure, because the buyers we serve need a single number to put in a budget line a year ahead. That is a genuine trade-off, not just a better mousetrap: a flat plan is worse value than credits if your usage is small or spiky, and worse value than a consumer subscription if you are one person. It is better value for a department with steady volume.
